How to Stick to Your Fitness Routine

With summer winding down and Fall within reach, many of our daily routines are about to change. Besides having to carry an umbrella with us wherever we go, when it comes to our fitness routine, we’ll have to consider the ‘unmotivating’ aspects of the new season.

It’s easy to stay active during the summer. Whether it’s hitting the seawall or hiking the Grouse Grind, our city offers plenty of places and spaces to get your sweat on. Plus waking up early for those morning POWERFIT workouts is made so much easier when the sun is out to greet you. So now that it’s coming to a close, it’s best to have a plan to help you stay motivated no matter what that elements, schedules, or daily grind brings.

To keep you on track, the ELITE Performance personal trainers in Vancouver are sharing a few ways to help you stay healthy, active, and motivated during the Fall and Winter seasons.

  1. Schedule. Every Sunday, schedule your workouts for the week ahead. Not only will you secure your space in a group class, but you’ll be able to ensure you don’t double book the time slot with meetings or appointments.

  2. Journal. Log in your workouts and write in what you did, calories you burned, or any other details possible for you to gauge your progress. Often writing things down keeps you accountable, which means you’ll be more motivated to keep to a routine.
  3. Treat Yourself. It’s always easier to do something hard when there’s a reward at the end. Give yourself permission to get a manicure, pair of shoes, or concert tickets after completing a month’s worth of workouts.
  4. Be Accountable. Have a friend, colleague, or spouse that also needs a little encouraging? Keep each other accountable, whether it be working out together or just checking in to see one another’s progress. Plus a little friendly competition never hurt either!
  5. Seek Guidance. When left to our own vices, it can be hard to push ourselves the way a trainer can. Sign-up with a personal trainer and/or join group classes, that way you won’t have to think about what exercise to do and when to do them.
