Maximize your workouts with these supplements

By Admin Elite Performance | In Fitness | on July 22, 2016

When you push through a challenging workout your muscle fibers are being broken down and torn apart, the process of muscle synthesis (repairing and rebuilding those fibers) is how one builds strength and increases lean muscle mass.  At Elite Performance we suggest supporting this process with a quality protein powder, glutamine and BCAA supplements. We recommend ATP New Zealand to our clients because it delivers clean grass fed protein with, low ingredient formulas without the use of artificial fillers or dyes.

  1. Protein Powder

The amino acids found in protein aid in the recovery and growth of muscle fibers.  Protein powder offers compact nutrition that’s easy to have on hand, all you need is water.  Consuming protein immediately post workout (within 30 minutes) has been shown to be the most beneficial in muscular recovery.

  1. L- Glutamine and L-Glycine

L-Glutamine and L-Glycine support the health of the immune and digestive systems after periods of physical stress.  L-Glutamine is the primary fuel source for the cells of the intestinal mucosa and also assists in the repair of muscle cells.  L- Glycine helps convert glucose into energy and is important for the construction of healthy DNA and RNA strands. Adding this supplement to your regimen has been shown to improve recovery times and also optimize athletic performance.

  1.  BCAA

BCAA is a branched-chain amino acid that helps your body convert protein into muscle fuel through the process of protein synthesis. It is most beneficial to take BCAA’s throughout your workout (if you’re in a pinch they can also tide you over until you can get a proper meal.) It is key in the growth, recovery and repair of muscle tissue and the prevention of muscle tissue breakdown.  Your body doesn’t produce these amino acids naturally so they need to be obtained through diet.  BCAA is metabolised in the muscles and can be used as an effective energy source when needed, this means you can have a longer more intense workout with less fatigue.
